RE: Welcome! Introduce yourself here.
I'm a real person! At least, I think so, therefore it must be so?
Anyway, I grew up in the Lower Mainland and moved elsewhere for school and work, but due to layoffs ended up landing back in Vancouver where my family support has been. Real estate here is nuts. The cost is one thing, but what it has done to our culture is even worse. All the discussions with friends and family revolve around real estate, largely because no one has any money to do anything because they spent all their cash on their poorly constructed townhouse. My wife and I rent, despite having an income in the top 5% of families, because the costs are too dear, and the benefits far too sketchy. My wife wants a house of her own, so we will buy some day, but definitely not in Vancouver. We will be moving somewhere that has a housing market that is at least marginally aligned with incomes. Will there be a bubble burst? Trends are funny things...they are trends and predictable, only up until the point that they are not. Always interesting to watch what unfolds. Thanks for the forum! |
